In this turbulent and uncertain time, we are all longing for a sense of rootedness and authenticity. Since 1832, Saint Luke’s Episcopal Church has been situated in the heart of our historic borough offering just that.
Worshipping God in the beauty of holiness according to the centuries old patterns and rituals of “The Book of Common Prayer,” we at St. Luke’s practice an ancient faith in the midst of the modern world, leaving room for big questions, sincere seekers, and folks of all ages and identities. Nowhere is this more true than during Christianity’s holiest days. This year, just as we have for 193 years, we will celebrate Holy Week and Easter, with solemnity, devotion, and beauty. Our choir sings a wide repertoire of sacred music which delights the ears and helps raise our hearts to God. Our sermons are thoughtful, engaged, and applicable to daily life.
On Palm Sunday, we will remember Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem with a procession outside the church and act out the story of Jesus’ passion and death at 8 and 10 am.
On Maundy Thursday, we will remember Jesus’ last supper and his vigil in Gethsemane with a solemn Sung Mass and an all night vigil.
And on Good Friday, we will remember Jesus’ death with Stations of the Cross at noon and sung service at 7 pm.
This all culminates with the joyful celebrations of Easter itself with the ancient Easter Vigil service at sundown on Holy Saturday, and two Masses on Sunday morning, including a 10:30 am pre-service concert and High Mass at 11:00 am featuring a choir and orchestra.
We invite you, whoever you are and wherever you are on your faith journey, to celebrate these holy days with us.
