The Washington Crossing Chapter Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) held its Washington’s Birthday dinner meeting last month in Richboro. Mr. Mark I. McNutt was the guest speaker. The educator, historian and filmmaker researched the life and times of the Doan family in the late 1700s in Bucks County.
Mr. McNutt gave an interesting talk titled “The Doan Gang - America's Original Outlaws.” The presentation was based on his research into the Doan family of Bucks County. The Doan gang were loyalists who committed crimes like stealing horses and robbing the contents of the Bucks County Treasury to support the British during the Revolutionary War.
Mr. McNutt was honored by the chapter at the dinner meeting with the SAR Bronze Good Citizenship Medal. The medal and certificate awarded by Chapter President Steven Ware and First Vice President David Tweed were for Mark’s research, scripted drama and documentary film promoting the historical story of the Doan Gang and other little-known stories from the revolutionary war period. His work supports the SAR’s goals and objectives through his contributions to the community related to education and history. His work brings the story of the infamous Doan Gang to life. Mark contributed to the creation of the new major exhibition “The Doan Gang Outlaws of the Revolution” currently on display at the Mercer Museum in Doylestown.
The chapter is grateful for his service to our community in perpetuating the story of Revolutionary War era events through his historical research and educational programs, two purposes of the SAR.
