The Friends of the Doylestown Library presents “Past & Present Voices: Oboe and Violin in Concert” on Saturday, June 7, from 1 to 2 p.m. in The Backyard—the outdoor extension of the Doylestown Library.
Arianna Kalian and Anna Majcherczyk will perform a program of duets by composers from the eighteenth century to present day including Bennett, Boismortier, Casal, Fine and Ginastera.
“In this unique program, the ‘voices’—the violin and oboe—have a conversation with each other through the music,” said Ms. Kalian. “We’ll also share some introductory comments about the music and our instruments.”
Arianna Kalian, an avid chamber musician and oboist, has been a member of the L’Amore della Musica woodwind and the Chatham Chamber Ensemble reed trio in New York City. While living in Michigan, she served as Principal Oboe with the Southern Great Lakes Symphony and performed in numerous chamber orchestras in the Detroit Metro area. Ms. Kalian has appeared in chamber music recitals at St. Agnes and St. Stanislaus Churches in Manhattan, and as solo recitalist at the Villa Clementine in Wiesbaden, Germany as well as the Merton College Chapel at Oxford University, England.
Anna Majcherczyk, violinist, has been a concertmaster of the Krakow Youth Philharmonic Orchestra, debuted as a soloist at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, and has performed in prestigious venues such as the Musikvereinsaal in Vienna and the Philharmonie Berlin. From 2012 to 2018, she was associate leader of the second violins with the Bremen Philharmonic Orchestra. Currently based in New York, she performs with various orchestras and chamber groups including serving as concertmaster with the New York Repertory Orchestra and the Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra, and teaches extensively at the Lucy Moses School, Opportunity Music Project and the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music.
